“Haunters Against Hate” — When Fear Meets Purpose at Movie Park Germany

At Movie Park Germany, Halloween is more than fright — it’s a force for good. On October 11, the park will host a special Haunters Against Hate event day, joining the U.S.-based movement that uses the power of horror to promote inclusion, equality, and acceptance.

Now in its fourth edition, the collaboration has become an important tradition at Movie Park Germany. In 2022, the park proudly hosted the first Haunters Against Hate event ever held in a theme park — and the first of its kind in Europe.

We sat down with Manuel Proßotowicz, Movie Park Germany Customer Director, to talk about what makes this event so unique, how it connects with people, and why spreading kindness can be as powerful as spreading fear.

What inspired Movie Park Germany to join the “Haunters Against Hate” initiative?

We loved the idea that even something as scary as Halloween can carry a message of respect and tolerance. Our haunters don’t just entertain — they embody the belief that everyone deserves to feel seen and accepted. Before we created the joint event, some of them had already been in contact with Paul Lanner, the founder of Haunters Against Hate. That connection paved the way for our Movie Park project team and sparked the genesis of this special Halloween event day. It’s a joint initiative brought to life by the Movie Park team, our scare actors, and the organization itself. We are in regular contact with the initiative to keep developing it further.

How do the haunters bring this message to life during the event?

Each actor adds a personal touch — some even adapt their costumes and integrate rainbow-colored elements and accessories to express the message. The highlight of the event day is a colorful Halloween parade, spreading the message of tolerance and equality. The parade will be longer than our usual one, and our haunters will carry signs with important messages and statements. In the evening, guests will also have the chance to take photos with our scare actors at specially designed photo points.

Why is Halloween the right time to talk about equality and inclusion?

Because it’s when people drop their masks — or put them on — to explore different sides of themselves. It’s the perfect moment to celebrate diversity, creativity, and being whoever they want to be.

What can guests expect from this year’s Halloween Horror Festival?

The biggest edition yet: nine haunted houses, four scare zones, 280 monsters, and two new mazes — “Blood Moon Trailer Park” and “Ahoj-Brause Horror Lab.” Plus, a new themed food zone and a powerful live show ‘Drums of Dooms’.

What makes “Haunters Against Hate” special for the Movie Park team?

It is a real community event with a message. Our haunters feel proud to be part of something that’s not just fun, but meaningful. In addition, our park shares the same values as Haunters Against Hate: we stand up for inclusion, diversity and equality within our corporate culture and follow a very open-minded approach. It is an event that brings people together and pursues the goal to speak up against all forms of prejudice, discrimination, and hate.
