Tropical Islands Welcomes Tiki & Isla: Two New Mascots Bringing Tropical Joy to Families

Tropical Islands, one of Parques Reunidos’ flagship destinations in Germany, is enriching its family experience with the arrival of two new mascots: Tiki and Isla.

Created to connect with children in a warm, playful and emotional way, Tiki and Isla are two monkeys who represent everything the park stands for: tropical vibes, warmth, sunshine, and memorable moments. Their names, inspired by the sound of the tropics and subtly linked to the initials of Tropical Islands, make them feel instantly at home under the dome.

To learn more about the idea behind the mascots and how they bring the Tropical Islands experience to life, we spoke with Claas Wilke, Director of Merchandising, Photo and Games at Tropical Islands.

What was the initial idea behind creating Tiki and Isla?
The starting point was our youngest guests. We wanted to create characters that children could emotionally connect with during their stay; friendly figures that make the tropical experience even more tangible and memorable for families.

Why did you decide to introduce two mascots instead of one?
We felt a duo would bring more life and storytelling possibilities. Tiki and Isla are best friends, but they are not identical. Their differences make them relatable and allow children to choose the character they identify with most or simply enjoy their dynamic together.

How would you describe their personalities?
They naturally complement each other. One may come across as more adventurous, the other as more thoughtful, but we intentionally left space for imagination. This allows children to create their own stories around them, which makes the experience more personal.

Why were monkeys chosen as mascots?
Monkeys are playful, expressive and universally appealing to children. They also fit perfectly into a tropical environment, symbolizing curiosity, energy and fun – all elements that are central to the Tropical Islands experience.

Their names are very distinctive. What do they represent?
We wanted names that sounded tropical, were easy for children to remember and had a deeper meaning. Tiki and Isla reflect holiday vibes and island life, while also subtly referencing the initials of Tropical Islands.

Where can guests meet Tiki and Isla in the park?
Children can enjoy spontaneous encounters with either Tiki or Isla, usually several times a day near the Tropino Kids Club. Sometimes one appears, sometimes the other – that unpredictability adds a bit of magic to each meeting.

The experience doesn’t end at the park gates. Guests who have taken Tiki and Isla to heart can also bring a piece of their tropical adventure home, with merchandise featuring the two mascots already available in the resort’s shops and more products planned for the future.

What do Tiki and Isla add to the overall Tropical Islands experience?
They make the park feel even more alive. Tiki and Isla stand for uniqueness, holiday spirit and tropical joie de vivre. For families, they create joyful moments and emotional memories that last well beyond the visit. This is made possible thanks to the close collaboration and great work of the Marketing and Animation teams, who have successfully brought both characters to life and continue to integrate them seamlessly into the park’s daily operations and communication.
