Movie Park Germany invites guests to step into the world of movies, action and spectacular entertainment. Known for its Hollywood-inspired DNA, family-friendly attractions and shows as well as popular seasonal events like the Halloween Horror Festival and Movie Park’s Hollywood Christmas, the park continues to evolve year after year. To get ready for 2026, we spoke with Thorsten Backhaus, General Manager, about insider tips, must-do experiences and how guests can enjoy Movie Park to the fullest with a sneak peek of what’s coming next.
As General Manager, how would you describe the essence of Movie Park Germany to someone visiting for the first time?
At Movie Park Germany you can truly experience Hollywood in Germany. Our park unifies family fun and movie-like adventures just like in a Hollywood blockbuster. As Germany's largest movie and theme park, we offer over 40 attractions and shows in seven themed areas, while well-known characters and TV heroes wait just around the corner to welcome you on set for your own personal adventure and a day full of fun and action.
Which attractions or experiences would you say are absolute must-dos, and why?
“Movie Park Studio Tour”, “Star Trek™: Operation Enterprise” and our family-oriented Nickelodeon LAND. This is where the world of movies can truly come alive. Additionally, our special seasonal events throughout the year are a highlight you should not miss out on. We offer a wide range of experiences, and there is something suitable for everyone.
Being Europe’s largest Halloween event, the “Halloween Horror Festival” adds an extra portion of thrill and excitement. After the scariest season of the year, we can then dedicate ourselves to the most beautiful season of the year: With “Movie Park’s Hollywood Christmas”, families can fully enjoy a festive atmosphere just like in a Christmas movie.
If you had to share just one insider tip to help guests make the most of their visit, what would it be?
If your main goal is to maximize your time at the park, it can help to take an anticyclical approach. This applies to both the attractions and the restaurants: not necessarily heading towards food outlets during peak hours, but rather a little before or after can save you a lot of time. Heading towards the attractions that are positioned further away and working your way forward can help as well – rather than just “going with the flow” and choosing the ride that is nearest or that you encounter on your way. A lot of visitors stop at the attractions that they see first.
What is your personal favorite attraction or moment in the park?
My favorite attraction is the “Star Trek™: Operation Enterprise”, which was my first novelty project as GM. This attraction is a highly themed triple-launch coaster that immerses guests directly into the Star Trek universe and combines an action-packed ride experience for the entire family.
What advice would you give guests to plan their day better and avoid common mistakes?
We would definitely recommend planning your visit in advance and also purchasing your tickets online and beforehand to save time and money.
Movie Park offers more than 40 attractions and shows. Depending on the day of your visit and the season during which you visit us, it may well be advisable to set priorities or even plan a longer trip for two consecutive days to enjoy the park to the fullest. The peak seasons, like the summer vacation period, are of course more crowded than regular weekdays.
Looking ahead to 2026, what can our visitors expect? Are there any novelties, improvements or surprises you’re particularly excited about?
In 2026, we are heading towards a major milestone: Movie Park Germany’s 30th anniversary. To celebrate this properly with our guests, we have lots of surprises in store. In place of “The Lost Temple”, a new exclusive Paramount attraction will further highlight the movie identity of the park, creating a new experience within this immersive tunnel ride. Guests will dive deeply into the movie productions and on-set operations of the world-famous Paramount Pictures – and experience first-hand what it is like to be an extra in a big movie production.
Furthermore, our big Movie Park anniversary parade will bring the world of movies to life with new cinematic floats, choreographies, costumes and a new soundtrack. Also, more Nickelodeon entertainment is on the way and new characters will wait for their big debut in 2026.
What would you like to say to guests who are considering visiting Movie Park Germany this season?
This season will be a very special one. Hollywood in Germany will come alive stronger than before and you can become part of it! This season is the time to celebrate and we can hardly wait to open the gates – with lots of bigger and smaller surprises, a well-rounded mixture of nostalgia, movie-like action, family fun and a concrete vision for the future. We are more than happy to welcome our guests for this big milestone and to celebrate 30 years of Movie Park Germany together.
