At Parques Reunidos, safety is more than a priority: it’s a shared commitment rooted in continuous improvement.
Following the milestone achieved by Slagharen, the first park in the Group to certify iROC instructors in summer last year, Parque Warner Madrid has now successfully completed the iROC training, reinforcing our ambition to keep learning, evolving and raising standards in ride operations, safety and guest experience across all our parks.
The iROC program, developed by International Ride Training, is the world’s only third-party certification for ride operators and represents a global benchmark in safety, operational excellence and consistency.
It provides train-the-trainer education, performance auditing, and other accountability measures to ensure that operations teams at amusement parks, water parks, and family entertainment centers perform to the highest standards. The program is based on the 10 Critical Components of Ride Operator Professionalism, Safety, and Efficiency, which serve as the foundation for professional ride operations worldwide.
Its rollout across Parques Reunidos reflects one of our core values in action: challenging ourselves, learning from best practices and continuously improving how we operate.
To better understand what this achievement means for Parque Warner and its teams, we spoke with Israel Berrio, Parque Warner Madrid Operations Director, who played a key role in the iROC training at the park.
Parque Warner has recently completed the iROC training. What does this achievement represent for the park?
At Parque Warner, we operate under the principle of offering the highest level of safety to our guests. The iROC certification therefore represents a very important milestone for us, as it allows us to reinforce and validate our operational model against an internationally recognized standard.
It consolidates our commitment to excellence by aligning us with global best practices in the industry and ensures that our teams operate under consistent, up-to-date, and externally validated criteria.
From an operational perspective, what stood out most during the iROC training process?
What stood out most was the comprehensive and structured approach of the training. iROC goes beyond the execution of procedures; it focuses strongly on decision-making, risk management, and the operator’s responsibility within the attraction operation.
This approach provides teams with a shared vision and a common language, which strengthens operational coherence and consistency across the park.
How does iROC contribute to strengthening both ride safety and the guest experience?
iROC adds an additional layer of rigor and standardization to ride operations, which translates into greater reliability and consistency. A solid and well-aligned operation reduces the likelihood of incidents and creates a more controlled and predictable environment.
All of this has a direct impact on the guest experience: visitors perceive the park as safe, professional, and well managed, and benefit from smoother operations and reduced waiting times at attractions.
What impact have you seen on teams following the training — in mindset, confidence or daily operations?
At this initial stage, the impact has been most visible among the group that received the training directly. It has supported their development in how they analyze operations, manage complex situations, and understand their role in the overall safety of each attraction.
These professionals will now play a key role within Parque Warner, as they will be responsible for transferring iROC learnings and criteria to the wider operational teams. Our goal is for this knowledge to be progressively integrated into daily operations, ensuring consistent and sustainable implementation over time.
